this week’s theme is, “what my mom did to my hair.” i know that this theme was probably supposed to lead to crazy pictures of bizarre hair-dos, but i always had pretty tame hair. (pre-1985 that is. after that my hair was all my doing. i know a few of you are remembering my “tail.” that was my fault, combined with some heavy BFF influence. mom remains off the hook for most of my bad hair decisions.)
there was a brief period of time when my mom would occasionally crimp my hair with a crimping iron (scroll down in the link for the pic of barbara) but i don’t have a picture where you can clearly see it. and even that wasn’t too bad, since i just wore it down, long and crimpy, nothing crazy.
however, a hair theme that does arise out of my photos is: pigtails. whether i had short hair, hair almost long enough to sit on, dress-up hair, or playing in the backyard hair, my head was most comfortable with those follicles split down the middle and pulled up in two rubber bands.
the picture at the top of this post is me in my school uniform and was taken, i think, around 1983.
this one:

must be in 1982, since i am holding my little sis. (kels, that is you, right?)
and i am guessing that this photo is from around 1977:

two funny things about this photo:
1. i just noticed that the doll i am holding is also sporting pigtails
2. my hair, as i sit here typing right now, looks almost exactly as it does in this pic
