“but how did she take a picture of her broken camera if the camera is broken?” you ask.
as was hinted at by someone in the comments on the last post, there was a camera that santa brought on christmas morning that was a strong contender to replace my broken camera. however, i will refuse to admit that i was just jealous and dropped mine because i secretly wanted the new camera! it was just handy that after the tragedy we had to do very little research to settle on a replacement. (i’m going to have to find a differently colored camera case so that we don’t mix ours up when we come to visit!)
since my old camera was always wonderful to me and it will be sadly missed, i thought it only right to have the first picture, taken with the new camera, be of my old one.
also: thank you to my mom-mom (grandma), whose generous christmas gift made it possible for me to get a new camera!
it’s snowing!
it snowed a bit on monday, too. it’s nice because the snow from the last storm was starting to look pretty dirty. yesterday’s and today’s flakes are just enough to freshen up the view and make the trees look gorgeous.
i’d show you a picture of just how pretty it is, but…well…i sort of completely broke my camera.
i had the camera in my hands, and was stepping over something. as i raised my leg i didn’t notice that my foot had gotten caught in the camera strap. so as i put my foot down, i pulled the camera out of my hands and effectively slammed it to the floor. mind you, in the past five years of owning this camera it has been through, and survived, a lot. and i have dropped it many times. the difference this time is that i had the camera on and the lens was extended. this combo of circumstances is what did the poor thing in. it all seems very sudden to be without my camera. i can’t believe it is broken.
because of this, the other thing that you won’t really be able to see is first night 2008. we went last night to the center of town to watch the countdown ball raise at midnight:
that’s right, in our town the ball goes up!
(we do things a little differently around here.)
there was quite a crowd gathered in the center of town at 11:55 when we arrived. the whole main intersection was packed solid: these pics taken with a camera phone, not quite the same quality, huh? if you would like to have a slightly better sense of the festivities, visit this person’s blog and scroll down about halfway through the post. he seems to be the first to get first night photos up so far.
there is actually a ton to do all afternoon and evening at first night, but we skipped all that this year, had a good dinner, relaxed with friends and then just showed up for the grand finale. perfect.
listening: oppenheimer, self titled album
we picked this up at the last tmbg concert, and i really like it. sometimes you don’t know if an opening band you enjoyed live will translate to a good cd purchase, but in this case, the songs have held up.
reading:
from the host of post punk kitchen. these are both interesting reads, and entertaining, on top of being filled with recipes. i have already made the vanilla cupcakes with chocolate ganache. we haven’t made anything from vegan with a vengeance yet (i need to go grocery shopping for a few things first, not for anything special…i just haven’t been grocery shopping in a while) but are looking forward to trying a few things out. even if the food isn’t great (which i doubt will be the case) the tips throughout the book are super useful and have already taught me a few handy things.
watching:
chuck is an ok show! you do have to suspend some disbelief to enjoy it, but so far it has been a fun watch. the first few episodes were clearly following a formula, which was getting a little old, but the last few have gotten much better. mostly though we watch it for jayne. although i wish his character in chuck (what is his name on the show anyway? we just still call him jayne) was a little better/bigger than it is.
so, right now you are realizing that it seems i only watch regular television shows on mondays. however, while that may be true, it is all about to change: project runway starts tomorrow! whoohoo!!!
listening:
mates of state. more specifically, the bring it back cd is what i am hooked on, but i have three of their albums in rotation in my car.
reading:
the opinionated knitter: elizabeth zimmermann newsletters
there is a pattern in this that i am trying to figure out, but it is also a really nice read from cover to cover. the newsletters are funny and interesting, and a little sassy, too.
surfing:
honestly, what am i not looking at on the web?
and bloglines helps me to keep track of it all. i go to bloglines all day, every day to keep up to date on website updates.
watching:
i have to admit that i really enjoyed last night’s episode of heroes. up until now, it has been a mildly interesting series to me. good enough that i watch it every week, and it is entertaining, but i don’t give it much thought. but last night it was very good. i am actually looking forward to next week’s episode.
what are you watching, reading, interwebbing, listening to? what should i be checking out?
leave me some ideas!
this weekend someone was giving away free firewood on freecycle, so we grabbed it up to add to the woodpile:
these will give the newly-repaired log splitter something to do. and today, tom came home from work with another small pile of wood. people are giving away free heat up here! don’t they know the cold is on its way?
and i got both a new cell phone and a new cell phone number:
the sales guy asked me: “What are you looking for in a cell phone? Camera? Texting? Internet access?”
he was not very excited when my answer was: “I would like my phone to make clear, non-dropped calls.”
i ended up with their basic model, which is still newer and lighter than my last one and it has a gps function. pretty fancy, if you ask me.
because of ridiculous logistical billing issues, i wasn’t able to keep my new jersey number. so, if you have my cell phone number, make sure i give you the new one soon. my nj number will still work for a little bit, but will probably be off by next month.
this toy may not have been one of my best cuddle up comfort toys, but it was a pretty cool toy!
it is the cutting-edge gaming system, the intellivision:
as you can see, my little sis instantly had her eyes on it!
however, it was for my birthday. see:
so she had to keep her hands off, at least for that day.
