girl on the rocks has found a way to link together both a piece of my past and one of my current obsessions!
she took the exact lunchbox that i cherished as a child and turned it into the cutest container for carting sock knitting projects around. click on the picture to see the inside of her project:

do you think she has been spying on me?
ok, i know that i linked to thrift shop project recently, but i have to note it once again out of pure jealousy because of today’s post.
she found a ball winder for one dollar! how long have i been looking for a ball winder for less than full price? yeesh. some thrifters have all the luck.

it seems like such a handy tool, but i just can’t justify paying more than $40 for it. oh well. i’ll just keep winding the old fashioned way.
in the spirit of thrifty blogging (like this one, this one or this one) and knit blogging (too many, just see the side bar) i present you with…cheap and free yarn.
the homespun and the white unidentifiable yarn are from a freecycle participant (cost = 0.00), and the giant spools of cotton yarn are from the fantastic red, white and blue thrift store (cost = 17.80)

the two biggest spools of yarn seem to be worsted weight. the two smaller spools seem to be sport weight. they are all marked as 100% cotton and together weigh 5lbs. 8oz. that’s quite a bit of yarn:

i think that this yarn:

might become this bag or this bag.
while in maryland, we took a boat ride on the patuxent river.
the pups got suited up in their life jackets, and we hopped on jessie and mark’s boat. once we got moving at a good speed abby realized that she loves being on a boat:

oscar really likes the boat, too:

grendel liked the boat:

that is, until the motor was on and it got a little loud. that was when grendel flattened himself against the boat floor between two seats. i guess he felt safe there:

time to get in the water and go for a swim:

time to head back and take a nap:

we went on a long-weekend road trip to visit tom’s sister, her husband and their dogs, zoe and oscar. fun was had by all.
jessie and mark let us all play in a field behind the house:

zoe shared her ball:

abby and mark stalked each other in the grass:

grendel was off-leash for a while, and was doing great until an unknown dog passed by. grendel decided to race off and invite the dog to play with us. the woman walking the new dog was not pleased and grendel then had to go back on his leash:

oscar doesn’t even get a chance to be off leash for a second, but he doesn’t care:

tomorrow - the boating adventure
one sock down, one in process. soon they will be a pair.

the shape looks a little goofy in the picture, but it fits very well.
