tonight we enjoyed our first fire in our livingroom fireplace.

or, rather, the first fire that lasted for more than 10 minutes…we’ll call those “practice fires”.

i didn’t think i would be a big fan of the fireplace, in fact, tom didn’t think i would ever let him build a fire.  but i think i have been converted.  it is sort of nice.

abby somehow ended up with a scratch on her cornea on sunday. she was not a happy camper, she kept scratching at her eye, on the brown side, and at first we thought it was just her allergies, but something just didn’t seem right…she was having trouble opening her eye so i took her to the vet.

now i have to put eye drops and a cream in her eye four times a day for 7 days. she pretty much hates me at this point. (though she does get rewarded with a few cheerios after each application) she also got her vaccinations while we were at the vet. so she is miserable due to her eye, the eye medication and the sore injection points on her back and thigh. poor little girl. i wish i could explain to her what is going on and that it will all be better eventually. it makes me so sad to see her so upset, especially when she thinks i am one of the causes of her misery.

today i also finished listening to the book, running with scissors: a memoir by augusten burroughs. it was really good. actually, i’m not sure if “good” is the word. more like bizarre, funny-ish, disturbing and moving. it was definitely interesting. it also took place in northampton and amherst. i can’t quite decide if i want to go see the movie version now. i can’t imagine which parts of the book made it onto the screen.
